Networks of Doom Video Introduction

Networks of Doom Blog Groundrules

I’ve posted on what groups Networks of Doom will cover, but before we get into the fun, let’s say a brief word on Rules of Order.

Look – there’s a lot to say about all the networks I want to cover.  But I don’t want to write 9,000-word articles, and you don’t want to read them.  And posting about dozens of groups all at once would be a mess.

So here’s how it’s gonna work.  Each ideological group that I pick is going to get a week or so in the spotlight.  In a series of posts, I’ll explain their worldview, lay out the basics, and then throughout the week link to the interesting stuff they’re doing online.  Then it’s on to the next network.

Threads open; comments welcome. I have neither axes to grind nor water to carry for any of the networks covered, but if something I write gets your blood too angrrrrd up – troll away, friendo.  That’s what the Internet’s for.

Here’s What This Blog is All About

The Internet Age of Ideology ; The Paranoid Style of American Rhetoric ; Doom COMES IN 2012, PERHAPS FOR Thee But not for me?

It’s noisy out there.

Great grumblings and murmurs are heard off in the distance.  Something is very wrong today, and everybody seems to know exactly what it is.

The trouble is: nobody agrees on what it is.  So there’s only one fair way to settle it: INTERNET FIGHT!!!

While dumb people have said that the Age of Ideology is over, Americans today have pinpointed all sorts of things wrong with the modern world.  And they’re out there, on blogs, messageboards, social media, eBooks and podcasts and videos, passionately trying to convince the rest of us that our dopey, lethargic lifeways are leading to doom.

Have you been following this shit?

You haven’t – at least not very well – at least not until now – because many of these networks are too small, too unbuzzworthy, too upsetting to mainstream sensibilities to warrant occasional New Yorker think pieces and coverage on World News Tonight.

Networks of Doom is here to let you all in on the fun.

What Every Group Profiled of NoD Believes

SO let’s start where all of these groups start.  We start with The System.  You know it well:

The State of Things

The networks this blog will cover believe that construct is hurtling towards doom.  Perhaps you think I’ll be focusing on:

System turns on Itself

In which case – go fuck yourself with Oprah’s cock.  Maybe you have enough time to waste reading a dull blog, but I don’t have time to write one.

We’re going smaller, weirder, and more far out.

Attack from Outer Orbit

Then, we’re going to zoom in and look at how these doomsaying nodes and clusters of ideology interact with each other.

Clusterfight

And finally, we’ll peek within each cluster to study each ‘sphere’s unique online ecosystem:

An Intimate Muddle

And if there’s any time left…actually there probably won’t be…doom lurks…

Thus it Begins

Now this is not the end.  It is not even the beginning of the end.  But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.
